Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan: The Ultimate Crispy, Healthier Comfort Food You’ll Make Again and Again

This Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan is a lighter and faster version of the classic comfort food. Using an air fryer means less oil, less mess, and a crispy result that still tastes rich and satisfying. It’s perfect for a quick lunch or an easy dinner the whole family will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 8 oz each)

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten

  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs

  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese

  • ½ cup marinara sauce

  • 6 tbsp reduced-fat mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).

  • Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides.

  • Prepare three bowls:

    • Bowl 1: flour mixed with salt and pepper

    • Bowl 2: beaten eggs

    • Bowl 3: panko breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan cheese

  • Coat each chicken breast in flour, dip into the egg, then press into the breadcrumb mixture.

  • Place the chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd.

  • Air fry for 6 minutes per side, until golden and fully cooked (internal temperature 165°F / 74°C).

  • Warm the marinara sauce while the chicken cooks.

  • Top each chicken breast with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese.

  • Return to the air fryer and cook for 2–3 more minutes, until the cheese melts.

  • Serve hot with pasta, vegetables, or a fresh salad.

Notes

  • Pound the chicken slightly for even cooking.

  • Spray the breaded chicken lightly with cooking spray for extra crispiness.

  • Don’t stack the chicken—air needs to circulate.

  • For extra flavor, add Italian seasoning or garlic powder to the breadcrumbs.
