Crispy Chicken Wonton Tacos are a fun, flavor-packed appetizer that combines crunchy wonton shells with tender teriyaki chicken and fresh, tangy coleslaw. They’re quick to make, easy to assemble, and perfect for parties, game nights, or a casual weeknight meal when you want something a little different but still simple.
2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
1 tbsp sesame oil, divided
1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
2 cups coleslaw mix (cabbage and carrots)
2 green onions, thinly sliced
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tsp honey
12 wonton wrappers
2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
1 tsp sesame seeds
2 tbsp chopped cilantro
Marinate the Chicken
In a bowl, combine the chicken, teriyaki sauce, 1/2 tablespoon sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger. Let marinate for about 10 minutes.
Cook the Chicken
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fully cooked and lightly caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.
Prepare the Slaw
In a mixing bowl, toss the coleslaw mix with green onions, rice vinegar, honey, and the remaining sesame oil. Set aside.
Crisp the Wonton Wrappers
Heat oil in a shallow pan over medium heat. Fry wonton wrappers for 20–30 seconds per side until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
Alternative: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes until crisp.
Assemble the Tacos
Fill each crispy wonton shell with cooked chicken, top with coleslaw, and drizzle with sweet chili sauce.
Garnish and Serve
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped cilantro. Serve immediately.
Use pre-shredded coleslaw to save time and reduce prep.
Do not overfill the wontons to keep them crisp and easy to eat.
Bake instead of fry for a lighter version with less oil.
Adjust sweetness and heat by adding more or less sweet chili sauce.
Serve right away, as the wonton shells are crispiest when fresh.
