Crispy Chicken Wonton Tacos are a fun and flavorful appetizer that combines crunchy fried wonton wrappers with tender teriyaki chicken and fresh, tangy coleslaw. They’re quick to prepare, full of texture, and perfect for parties, game nights, or an easy weeknight meal with an Asian-fusion twist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced

  • ¼ cup teriyaki sauce

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil, divided

  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

  • 2 cups coleslaw mix (cabbage and carrots)

  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon honey

  • 12 wonton wrappers

  • Oil, for frying

  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce

  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro

Instructions

  • Marinate the Chicken
In a bowl, combine the chicken, teriyaki sauce, ½ tablespoon sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger. Let marinate for 10 minutes.

  • Cook the Chicken
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fully cooked and lightly caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.

  • Prepare the Slaw
In a separate bowl, toss the coleslaw mix, green onions, rice vinegar, honey, and remaining sesame oil until well combined.

  • Crisp the Wonton Wrappers
Heat oil in a small pan over medium heat. Fry the wonton wrappers for 20–30 seconds per side until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

  • Assemble the Tacos
Fill each crispy wonton wrapper with cooked chicken and a spoonful of coleslaw. Drizzle with sweet chili sauce.

  • Garnish and Serve
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped cilantro. Serve immediately while crispy.

Notes

  • Save time: Use pre-shredded coleslaw mix for quicker prep.

  • Baking option: Bake wonton wrappers at 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes if avoiding frying.

  • Extra crunch: Assemble tacos just before serving to keep wrappers crispy.

  • Adjust sweetness: Add more or less sweet chili sauce to suit your taste.

  • Protein swap: This recipe also works well with shrimp or tofu.
