Honey Garlic Chicken (Better Than Takeout & Ready in 25 Minutes)

Sweet, savory, and packed with bold flavor, this Honey Garlic Chicken is a quick and satisfying meal that comes together in just 25 minutes. Tender pieces of chicken are pan-seared until golden, then coated in a sticky honey-garlic sauce with a perfect balance of sweetness and umami. It’s an ideal weeknight dinner that pairs beautifully with rice, noodles, or steamed vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 4 garlic cloves, minced

  • ⅓ cup honey

  • ¼ cup soy sauce (low sodium recommended)

  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes (optional)

  • Sesame seeds and chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  • Coat the Chicken
Place the chicken pieces in a bowl and toss with cornstarch until evenly coated.

  • Cook the Chicken
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook for 5–6 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and fully cooked. Remove chicken from the skillet and set aside.

  • Sauté the Garlic
In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  • Make the Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, and chili flakes. Pour the sauce into the skillet and bring to a gentle simmer.

  • Combine and Thicken
Return the chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring, until the sauce thickens and glazes the chicken.

  • Garnish and Serve
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve warm over rice, noodles, or with steamed vegetables.

Notes

  • Use thighs for extra juiciness, or breasts for a leaner option.

  • Don’t overcook the garlic—it should be fragrant, not browned.

  • Adjust sweetness or saltiness by tweaking the honey or soy sauce amounts.

  • For extra crispiness, cook the chicken in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
