Ingredients

Scale

Dough:

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

Coating:

  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 cup white sugar

Instructions

  • Make the Dough

    • In a pan, combine water, butter, salt, and sugar. Bring to a boil over high heat.

    • Reduce heat and gradually stir in the flour until a smooth dough forms. Remove from heat.

  • Add Egg & Vanilla

    • Transfer dough to a large bowl and cool for 4–5 minutes.

    • Add the egg and vanilla, mixing with a hand mixer until smooth.

  • Prepare the Air Fryer

    • Preheat to 375°F (190°C).

    • Spray basket with nonstick spray (coconut or vegetable oil).

  • Pipe or Spoon the Dough

    • Fill a piping bag and pipe bite-sized churros into the basket.

    • Alternatively, drop spoonfuls of dough into the basket. Avoid overcrowding.

  • Air Fry

    • Lightly brush with butter.

    • Cook 10–12 minutes, until golden brown. Work in batches if needed.

  • Coat in Cinnamon Sugar

    • Mix sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.

    • Toss warm churros in the mixture, brushing with melted butter if needed for better adhesion.

  • Serve

    • Enjoy warm with chocolate syrup, honey, or Nutella for dipping.

Notes

  • Uniform size: Pipe evenly for consistent cooking.

  • Crispier texture: Air fry a few extra minutes if needed.

  • Flavor boost: Use freshly ground cinnamon for stronger flavor.

  • Make ahead: Dough can be refrigerated for 1 day before cooking.
