The Ultimate Guide to Loaded Fries: From Humble Side to Heroic Feast

These Loaded Fries are the ultimate comfort food — crispy baked french fries topped with melty cheddar cheese, smoky bacon, fresh green onions, and a creamy drizzle of ranch. Perfect as a party appetizer, game-day snack, or indulgent side dish everyone will love!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz frozen French fries

  • 810 oz cheddar cheese block (freshly shredded for best melt)

  • 12 oz bacon, diced and cooked

  • ¼ cup ranch dressing

  • 2 green onions, sliced

  • Sea salt & black pepper, to taste

Instructions

1️⃣ Cook the Bacon
Dice bacon into 1-inch pieces and cook in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Transfer to a paper-towel-lined plate.

2️⃣ Bake the Fries
Preheat oven according to package instructions (typically 400°F / 200°C).
Spread frozen fries on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake until crispy — follow package cook time.

3️⃣ Prep Toppings
While fries bake, shred cheddar cheese and slice green onions.

4️⃣ Top & Melt
Remove crispy fries from the oven, lightly season with salt and pepper, then layer on cheese, bacon, and some of the green onion.
Return to the oven until the cheese is fully melted.

5️⃣ Finish & Serve
Drizzle with ranch dressing and sprinkle remaining green onion before serving hot.

Notes

  • Use a single layer of fries for max crispiness.

  • Fresh-shredded cheese melts better than pre-shredded.

  • Try waffle fries or curly fries for fun texture changes.

  • Swap ranch for sour cream, BBQ, or chipotle mayo for flavor variety.

  • Add jalapeños, pulled pork, or crispy chicken for an ultra-loaded version.
